Hook (one to five sentences)

--First sentence of introduction

--The hook gets reader's attention and turns it in the general direction of your topic

Startling fact or opinion

Well-developed description

Clincher (one to two sentences)

--Final sentence of the conclusion:  "dessert" for the mind

--A "memorable statement" that leaves the reader feeling satisfied;  often poetic, philosophical, witty or deep.
